Linear robots have several linear axes combined in order to implement a multidimensional movement. igus supplies flat, linear and room linear robots for a multitude of different tasks. igus linear robots include harnessed drylin linear modules/axes with NEMA stepper motors as well as all the components needed to build your own robot. In this technical video, we observe the operation of an igus linear robot. The process begins with the robot picking up a plastic lid intended for a container. This is achieved through the use of advanced gripping technology, ensuring a secure and precise pick-up.

Once the plastic lid is in the robot’s possession, it proceeds to the next step - mounting the lid onto the container. The robot accomplishes this by firmly clipping the lid in place. This action is performed with a high degree of accuracy, ensuring a perfect fit every time.

The Pick-and-Place test, conducted by rbtx for a client, is a detailed process that demonstrates the capabilities of automation systems.In the first step of the test, a plastic disc is picked up using an igus linear portal.

The igus linear portal is a high-precision device specifically designed for such tasks. It uses vacuum technology to securely and reliably pick up the plastic disc.

After the disc has been picked up, it is placed at a specific position. This step requires high precision and accuracy, as the positioning of the disc is crucial for the next step of the test.In the final step of the test, the positioned disc is pressed in using an aluminum profile attached next to the gripper. This step demonstrates the versatility of the system, as it is capable of using additional components like the aluminum profile to perform additional tasks.

This test is evidence of rbtx’s capabilities in developing and implementing customized automation solutions tailored to the specific requirements of each client. It also shows the versatility and efficiency of automation systems in modern manufacturing.

Pick and place robot featuring dual working heads. Designed to handle material range from 2 to 6 metres and maximum weight of 7 kg. The individual toothed belt axles are each controlled by a D1 motor control unit. A penumatic vacuum suction system from Schmalz was chosen to pick up the workpieces.

This meant that a low-cost solution could be implemented and the investment paid for itself in a short time.

The customer test, which was carried out at the igus branch in India, is intended to serve as an automated, cost-effective packaging process for yogurt cups. The cups are placed in the packaging with the help of a line gantry and a suction gripper. The test was successful and the customer can now put the automated application into operation. Portals are a combination of several linear axes to realize a multi-dimensional movement. For a wide variety of tasks, igus offers gantries as area, line and room gantries. igus gantries contain pre-configured drylin linear modules/axes with NEMA stepper motors as well as all the components required for self-assembly. During this customer test at our branch in India, a handling process with connectors was to be tested cost-effectively in accordance with customer requirements. The customer application was realised with a linear gantry and a suction gripper.

For many applications, there is no need for an articulated arm robot. Often, 2 or 3 degrees of freedom are completely sufficient.

In this application, the stacking and depositing of lids was to be automated. For this purpose, a 2-axis system was equipped with a Cobot pump, as well as an additional lightweight gripper system to guarantee a higher gripping force.

The application could be realized without any problems and a short payback time of the investment could be guaranteed thanks to the cost-effective components.
